Dear reader. Sorry for the silence, but we’re back now. We slipped away quietly to deal with a cash crunch and to recuperate after the team started looking a bit ragged round the edges. Now, invigorated and excited, we re-enter the fray.
Being a small media house makes us susceptible to shocks. The economic malaise of our time has been problematic for us (as I’m sure it has been for most of you). But, being small also makes us nimble. We can react quickly and scale up or down to battle the odds. We have a pioneering spirit in our team that gives us the courage to face up to things and manoeuvre accordingly.
During our time off, we agreed that we want to make our news hotter and more relevant to our readers. We want to continue to reach those who cannot afford to buy their news, but are vital to a healthy and prosperous city. And while we do this, we must provide unparalleled value to our advertising clients.
Here’s the plan.
We are re-launching as a free-sheet once again. We will split up our 16-24 page print run across the month, so you will get a weekly 4 to 8 page read for free at vendors, and all outlets, big and small in Harare. With 50,000 copies going out each week, we have the opportunity to really impact and elevate the bread and butter issues affecting all residents of Harare. Please be a part of this by reading and sharing the print and online editions, and by writing in whenever something delights or irks you. Also, show our advertisers some love at every opportunity – buy their brands, like them on Facebook, and get to their events! Without them, we couldn’t do any of this.
Scaling up to being weekly is a process rather than an event and will take a couple of months. Our first issue will come to you on Thursday 10th August. Grab yours. Read it. Share it. Write to me at [email protected] with your feedback and news.
