Festival goers were treated to something new yesterday at HIFA when Mirror Man turned up to quite literally dazzle the crowds.

Aleck Mukumba from Mutare is a visual media artist. His piece for HIFA took a year to make.

“I’m a perfectionist so to speak,” said Mukumba, “I am inspired by nature, and this mirror suit imitates the scales on a reptile. It took a lot of patience to get it all right.”

Mukumba’s suit was turning heads, and like the pied piper he was followed by a crowd of cell phone wielding visitors trying to soak up some of the dazzling light firing off in every direction.

“Today is my first day here,” said Mukumba, “and the response to this piece has been really awesome,” he said.
