On Thursday 19 February, students and teachers will have the opportunity to ‘Meet the Authors’, Shimmer Chindoya and Valerie Tagwira whose works form part of the ZIMSEC A-Level set list. The event is hosted by Weaver Press and the guests will be interviewed by writer and story-teller Ignatius Mabasa, and Dr Sunanda Ray, a public health specialist who runs an exciting book group.
Strife, the award-winning Shimmer Chinodya’s most recent novel, is, according to Percy Zvomuya, ‘an encounter with ghosts, as an African family gets caught between tradition and modernity’.
Tagwira’s novel, The Uncertainty of Hope, also now on the A-level syllabus, is the story of the friendship between two vendors, Onai and Katy, and explores their lives and their families during turbulent times in Mbare. Tagwira, a doctor, once said that stories find her, and this lends an immediacy to this vibrant novel.
Students, teachers and interested readers are welcome. The event is free.
Meet the Authors will take place at Prince Edward School in the auditorium at 2:30 on Thursday 19 February. Books will be available for purchase.
