City of Harare’s Mabelreign district offices yesterday received a donation of three desktop computers and a printer from real estate company Exodus and Company (Pvt) Ltd.
Like other council offices, the Mabelreign district office was faced with computer shortages forcing workers to use dated methods of record keeping and communication.
Handing over the computers, Progress Mambo the director of Exodus said that his company had donated the computers after it had received all its correspondence from the Mabelreign district officer hand-written.
“Through our interaction with this office we realised that we do correspondence properly and professionally, but the response (from Mabelreign district office) came in handwritten notes… So we are happy that we are donating these computers to City of Harare and our hope is that it will improve efficiency and the manner in which they serve the public,” said Mambo.
Accepting the donation local councillor Lancelot Mudavanhu (Ward 16) said that he was grateful for the company’s support and praised the company for handling well the Madokero housing project which is set to complete next month.
“Thank you very much for this wonderful donation and I think we will be one exemplary office whenever we present any documentation,” said Mudavanhu.
Josephine Ncube the CoH director of corporate, housing and community development services said that one of her tasks when she recently assumed the lead of the housing portfolio was to get computers for the municipality’s district offices.
“In terms of vision 2025 we will be a world class city and a very important part of that is computerisation, making sure that all our offices are connected and residents can have the benefit of communicating with us from the comfort of their homes,” said Ncube.
Harare has been lagging in terms of computerisation with most of its systems still being operated manually. With vision 2025 in mind, it is high time Harare starts computerising its systems.
