Talented drummer, vocal and instrumentalist musician Blessing Bled Chimanga last night launched his third album ‘Let The Drums Speak’ at the Zimbabwe German Society.
‘Let The Drums Speak’ is an annual production by Chimanga and friends. The DVD is the first he has recorded live. It features renowned musicians including the late Chiwoniso Maraire and recently imprisoned Dudu Manhenga.
Timothy Manhenga who is on the production team said it has been painful for Chimanga as he had to launch this DVD in the absence of his fellow performers.
Guest of honour, EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe Aldo Dell’Ariccia has been supporting Chimanga since they first met in 2011. Speaking at the event last night, he said “When Blessing plays, all of a sudden he merges with the drums, his face becomes one magic element that completely captures the audience.”
Another special guest at the launch was Italian Ambassador Stefano Moscatelli who has supported Chimanga in his collaborative work with Italian musicians in the Zimboita project.
In his performance, the thrilling display by Chimanga drew the audience to stand as he passionately beat his drums. The mere four song performance serves as assurance that the DVD is well packaged with beautiful music.
Chimanga’s music is about dreams, peace, unity, joy and love. It encourages people to stick to their dreams for they do come true.
”Hold on to your dreams, you are the life changers in your industries,” he told the audience.
The multi-talented musician started composing songs in his teenage years. “I always had melodies and rhythms, I realised they were so original and mine. I then had the drive to love what I have and own it,” he said.
After the event Harare News spoke to Chimanga’s mother. “He would play drums at church, having to be there early to ensure all was set properly and he pushed his passion,” she said. She urged mothers to support and uplift their children once they recognise their talents.
Also performing at the launch was ‘Let The Children Play’, three children who look up to Chimanga for inspiration.
The DVD was sponsored by Crystal Candy and Print.
Chimanga will be performing with Zimboita and several Zimbabwean artists in the country, South-Africa, Zambia and Mozambique throughout this month, November and December. He’s worth looking out for.
