Week 6 of the Zimbabwe Cook Off required contestants to create two courses for the judges. All eight created a main dish using chicken, after which one contestant was eliminated. This left seven to prepare a desert for the judges, with another elimination before the day was out.
The main dishes presented were varied, with a pigeon pie from Brenda Hewitt-Voue and spaghetti with sautéed chicken fillet from Josephine Munyoro. Josephine was eliminated after the main dish challenge. The other contestants were given a half an hour break before undertaking the desert challenge.
Interesting deserts were created, as Nicholas Fourie made chocolate ganache wrapped in phyllo pastry with spun sugar, which scored highly on creativity. Amy McLeod didn’t risk experimenting and relied on simplicity for her desert, when she made a chilled, layered desert served in a wide brimmed wine glass. Her desert featured strawberries, ginger and cream. Zayne Guzha was eliminated after the desert challenge, leaving six contestants for next week.
In Week 7 contestants will have to replicate a dish cooked by one of the judges in the ‘signature dish’ challenge.
