Afro-fusion legend Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi gave an electric performance at his homecoming gig at Red Fox Hotel on Friday night.
The acclaimed superstar, who arrived on Wednesday from a tour of United Kingdom, Netherlands, United States, Canada and Japan where he staged 32 shows in the last two and half months, gave his home fans an exhilarating show.
Performing in a trio with Sam Mataure and bassist Enoch Piroro, Tuku came on stage just before midnight, despite the advertised time of 8pm.
Tuku’s performance was the perfect follow on from his ‘homeboy’ Appie T who opened the show with an energetic, humorous and hilarious act. The Norton native thrilled his audience with songs such as Apa Pake, Discud and Mudhidhi attracting shouts of praise whistles and a great ovation
After Tuku’s performance, it was back to Red Fox’s regular reggae affair with Mike Madamombe a.k.a Mic Inity and Nadine ‘Lady Fire’ Brown backed by the Red Radicals band.
The two managed to sustain the fire of their predecessors, jamming to various songs including My Way All Day, Freedom and Mic Inity’s latest hit Goodness Shall Pay well into the wee hours of the morning.
