September’s issue is on the streets. It’s our third issue and we feel like we’re settling into a groove. We hope you’re enjoying the paper too. As always, we would love to hear your feedback. In the September issue, it’s all about spring – spring-cleaning, spring planting… And don’t forget to look up too – the msasas are truly in their spring splendour. If you’ve got time, make your way to Mukuvisi Woodlands on the last Sunday of the month and do the walk there. Three, five or eight kilometres, it’s a great time of year to head to the woods.

September seems to be a bit of a campaign month. We’ll be bringing you stories from World Alzheimer’s Month and also a message from Miracle Missions about the Clean Up the World campaign, with a focus on the 20 and 21 September. Miracle Missions has put together a great page of information in the paper on how you can get involved so that Harare is included in this global initiative. We’ll be posting that soon. Harare News will certainly be rolling up our sleeves too.

It’s been a month since the election and many of our streets are still pasted with campaign posters. We hope everyone will use the Clean Up month to help get our city cleaned up – if you have posters outside your own gate, on the walls, culverts, lamp posts… why not get out there with a bucket of warm soapy water and get scrubbing.

As we went to press, we had phone calls from readers concerned about the churning up of the Highlands Vlei by developers. This is despite the good news we shared with you last month, where the Ministry of the Environment confirmed that permission had not been granted to develop the vlei. It was ordered that the land be returned to its original condition. Well, it looks like this wetland is still under threat. Details of what is going on are still emerging. We’ll be bringing the issue online over the coming months, so we hope you’ll join in the discussion.
